In 1999 the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe has launched the first Global Education Week, promoting school activities in the member States with a specific focus on how to overcome poverty and social exclusion.
Since, and on the basis of the positive feed-back from 1999, the North-South Centre invites the 47 member States of the Council of Europe to participate annually in the Global Education Week through the active collaboration of national contacts integrating the Global Education Week network.
The theme choosing process for Global Education Week 2013 resulted from an interactive discussion between the network co-ordinators on the issue of Global Education Week and its relation to the Millennium Development Goals. Various proposals were considered and the final theme agreed by the network was :
“GO FOR A SUSTAINABLE LIFE STYLE ! ”
The Global Education Week encourages pupils and teachers as well as youth groups to explore educational activities for global citizenship. It is a matter of addressing issues of diversity and inequality at the local as well as at the global level with an understanding of the core issues of global citizenship and responsibility:
The annual conference and General Assembly 2013 of EUNET will take place from September 27th to 29th 2013 in Bonn (Germany).
This years conference will focus on some of the challenges Europe is facing over the next couple of years with regard to politics and education.
The aim is to bring the participants up-to-date on several topics related to the work of our network and the participation of citizens in the process of the European integration.
With the 2013 conference programme we try to balance a maximum of content with a maximum of allocated time for working groups.
Participants will have the chance to propose additional topics for workshops during registration process to make this part of the conference as target group orientated as possible.

The European Youth Foundation is supporting the involvement of youth representatives in the 2013 edition of the World Forum for Democracy (WFD) “Re-wiring democracy: connecting institutions and citizens in the digital age”.
This second edition of the World Forum for Democracy taking place in Strasbourg 27-29 November will focus on re-connecting citizens with institutions and re-inventing democratic participation in the digital age.
The approach used by the Forum will consist of working groups about experimental initiatives and innovative ideas that have the ambition to amplify citizen voices, increase institutions’ transparency, responsiveness, re-focus on common interest and enable more deliberation and citizen influence on decision-making.
40 young participants will be selected by the Youth Department in order to ensure a visible youth dimension during the World Forum for Democracy (WFD).
