Global Education Week 2013 – Go for a sustainable life style!

Global Education WeekIn 1999 the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe has launched the first Global Education Week, promoting school activities in the member States with a specific focus on how to overcome poverty and social exclusion.
Since, and on the basis of the positive feed-back from 1999, the North-South Centre invites the 47 member States of the Council of Europe to participate annually in the Global Education Week through the active collaboration of national contacts integrating the Global Education Week network.

The theme choosing process for Global Education Week 2013 resulted from an interactive discussion between the network co-ordinators on the issue of Global Education Week and its relation to the Millennium Development Goals. Various proposals were considered and the final theme agreed by the network was :

GO FOR A SUSTAINABLE LIFE STYLE ! ”

The Global Education Week encourages pupils and teachers as well as youth groups to explore educational activities for global citizenship. It is a matter of addressing issues of diversity and inequality at the local as well as at the global level with an understanding of the core issues of global citizenship and responsibility:

  • awareness of the wider world and of our own role as a world citizens;
  • attitudes of respect for diversity and intercultural communication skills;
  • ability to take action to make the world a more equitable and sustainable place;
  • responsibility for our own actions

Web 2.0 in der politischen Bildungsarbeit nutzen

EH MarienbergFortbildungsveranstaltung des Europa-Haus Marienberg in Zusammenarbeit mit dem DGB Bildungswerk Hattingen

25. – 30. August 2013

10 month before the EP elections – what do citizens think about the EU ?

According to the latest Eurobarometer survey results, six out of ten citizens in the EU feel ‘European’ and want to know more about their rights, but less than half (46%) know what these rights are.

The results also show that Europeans see their rights as EU citizens as the most positive result from the EU – almost six in ten people identify the free movement of people, goods and services as the EU’s most positive result.

Despite the crisis, those saying they are optimistic about the EU’s future outnumber those who say they are pessimistic in 19 out of 28 countries, while pessimism about the impact of the crisis on jobs appears to be receding. Almost seven in ten Europeans (67%), with a majority in all Member States, say that the EU’s voice counts in the world.

The First results report outlines Europeans’ perceptions of the current economic situation, their main concerns and trust in political institutions. It also covers their opinions on the crisis, the Europe 2020 strategy and issues related to EU citizenship.

The First results report is available in EN DE FR
